What is Ganesh Chaturthi?

Ganesh Chaturthi, the vibrant and much-celebrated Hindu festival, has always been about more than just worshiping Lord Ganesha. It’s a time for communities to come together, celebrate, and reflect on the values of unity and cultural preservation. It is an exciting, ten-day festival that takes place in August or September to celebrate the birth of Lord Ganesh. Celebrated by Hindus all over the world, Ganesh Chaturthi is an important Hindu celebration.
The joyous beginning of Ganesh Chaturthi starts with statues of Ganesh being anointed with a special paste and flowers. Offerings of his favourite coconut and modaks, amongst other things, are made to Ganesh. At the end of the festival, the larger than life statues of Ganesh are carried in huge processions into the sea, rivers and lakes. Accompanied by drums and dancing, the statues are placed in the water as part of a final ritual that sends Ganesh home to the sacred Kailash Parvat.

In 2023, the Sood Charity Foundation took this celebration to a whole new level by launching an initiative that not only celebrated the deity but also served as a beacon of hope for local artists. The festivity was garlanded further by being a hopeful display of compassion and community support.

Sonu Sood, the founder of Sood Charity Foundation brought joy and hope to all his fans and followers. Sonu Sood brings Ganpati Bappa home with a lot of fervour and hopes of doing good for the society. He has always been in the forefront of various charitable initiatives. From providing medical aid to underprivileged individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic to supporting the education of countless children, his foundation has shown a deep commitment to uplifting those in need.

The main focus of this Ganesh Chaturthi was to collaborate with local artists, particularly those who had been struggling due to the pandemic and its economic repercussions. Local artisans like sculptors and seasonal idol makers, who earn their livelihood during festive seasons have faced the wrath of immense hardships in recent pandemic years. With lockdowns and restrictions affecting public gatherings and festivities, they were left with nothing to be hopeful about. Sood Charity Foundation is identifying these local artists, offering them financial support, and providing them with a platform to showcase their talents. The foundation has purchased Ganesha idols from them and is also encouraging individuals and businesses to follow suit.
